Just in general, can we NOT have huge giant essays in a comm that specifically discourages posting huge giant essays? I mean, explaining why you think this particular story/image you're about to post is REALLY FRIGGIN' COOL at great length is standard fannish behavior, so whatever, but scans_daily is not for launching your meta essays and discussions with a few token images or a litmus test. We shouldn't even have a "snooty discussion" tag, since "snooty discussion" is more or less against the rules!

I feel a little guilty for participating in that discussion at all, although in my defense my comments were mostly quiet poking at overgeneralization.

At least teh_no seems to have realized towards the end that this really wasn't the appropriate forum.
