Don't lock your kid/pet in your car

Let us all take a moment to preemptively mourn for all the small children and/or pets that will no doubt die this summer while locked in a hot car while their parents and/or owners go inside to get their nails done. EVERY DAMN YEAR some idiots leave their dogs, cats, or babies to a slow, dreadful death inside a metal/glass oven.

A friendly reminder to my flist: leave your pets at home if you cannot take them inside with you. Do not leave your small children locked in the fucking car under any circumstances.

The police department in San Francisco has a very good record of smashing in the car windows of cars if someone calls to report a pet or child in distress. I know because I've called them before when I see dogs locked in cars on hot days, and they've been great about coming out, taking one look at the sitch, saying, "well, these dipshits don't deserve to own this dog, then," and smashing the windows open.

I second this post. A dog or cat can enter respiratory distress within THREE MINUTES of being in a locked car with the windows closed in the sun. Don't do it. If you do, you don't deserve to own a pet and need to be thrown to the polar bears. It is NOT safe under any circumstances.

I could NEVER imagine just leaving my cat in the car for any reason, and when I had a dog, I couldn't pay attention to anything else long enough to just forget she's in there. Liza only goes outside for vet visits and to go somewhere with me, and when I'm in the car, the AC is either on or the windows are mostly down.

People who leave their dogs in a hot car make me sick. It's your fucking dog. If you're taking it somewhere, take it with you. They're not grown up people. They don't understand why the fuck you're not in the car with them, let alone for that long, and they can't remind you to roll your windows down.

What's almost worse is when people leave their kids/pets in the car and think it's okay "because they left the window open a crack". It still gets about a hundred degrees in there dipshits.
