Ranking physical pain
Dec. 25th, 2013 01:32 amAs I'm currently coping with a busted rib, the affects of physical pain have been on my mind the last couple of days. Putting my thoughts below a cut, as they are injury and pain-related; while not self-inflicted injuries, it might be a little TMI or Do Not Want for some.
The broken rib definitely hurts, but the worst pain was right after it snapped -- now its mostly a dull throb. When I cough or move the wrong way, it lets its presence be known.
Getting my nose busted as a kid is still probably the worst pain I've ever been in -- bad enough that I blacked out for a few seconds. I came to SCREAMING MY HEAD OFF. That was truly beyond belief painful. However, I've never endured kidney stones or natural childbirth so I dunno what the worst would be.
Number two would probably be getting shots in my feet to numb them before having foot surgery. When the needle went in, it hit a nerve or something that sent a white-hot electric shock of pain all over my body. I was cussing out the doctor, apologizing, and then cussing him out again.
I had some fingernails ripped out a few years back. That fucking HURT, but not quite to screaming out loud levels. I'd put this at number three. Intriguing that this one appears as a torture tactic in movies/TV. I think there's something about the visual of losing a fingernail, much like seeing a tooth pulled, that freaks people's shit out.
