Shipper Manifesto: Ambrollins

transemacabreAlas, my het wrestling OTP (Zigglee) is no more, and other canon couples, such as Kane/Daniel Bryan, and Cody Rhodes/Damien Sandow, are on the outs. Even CM Punk and Paul Heyman are going through a bitter divorce. But my slash OTP, Dean Ambrose/Seth Rollins, is still truckin' along. Allow me to show you my reasons to ship them.
Dean Ambrose , the pitbull of the Shield. As Jon Moxley, he made a name for himself in indie wrestling for his tormented character and articulate, blistering, quotable ("I roam the landscape like a Tyrannosaurus Rex!") promos. Be warned if you go looking for his indie wrestling matches on Youtube, however, as he likes to play rough.
Seth Rollins , the daredevil of the Shield. He came up on the indie scene as Tyler Black, becoming a Ring of Honor champion. Dog-lover, something of a nerd (he named two of his movies the Skywalker and the Avada Kedavra -- really!), and rock star good-looking, Seth is all about kicking ass and taking names with his high-flying moves.
Interestingly, although Seth and Dean were both in the indies at the same time, they never managed to meet and wrestle one another until both ended up in WWE's developmental property, FCW. And let's just say that, when they finally did meet, they didn't exactly hit it off right away...
Dean Ambrose came to FCW completely obsessed with getting his hands on Seth Rollins. You sort of get the impression that may have been his ONLY reason for coming to FCW at all. When they finally get in a ring together, Dean walks up to Seth and touches Seth's belly. Seth gets this look on his face like WTF is wrong with this pervert? I can't really blame Dean though, because have you SEEN Seth Rollins?! I think I'd have to touch him to make sure he was real, too.
Dean and Seth had several grudge matches against one another, which I've going to put here just because they're ALL amazing and goldmines of slash. There could be a Dean/Seth Drinking Game. Take a drink every time A) Dean gets Seth in the missionary position B) One of them ~slowly takes off his shirt before a match while staring the other in the face C) Dean does something violent but sort of kinky and erotically charged to Seth and D) they press their foreheads together as though they're about to make out.
First Match. At 2:00 into the second half, Dean scratches his nails down Seth's back, only for Seth to turn around and claw him up in revenge!
Second Match. Cool fact: The first and second matches were wrestled on the same night, only like 45 minutes apart.

Fifth Match!
I love this one because the camera is close enough that you can hear them banter, and also Dean's grunty sex noises he makes.
But this post isn't just about how Dean and Seth had a grudge against each other. It's also about how they went from that, to this...
In November 2012, Seth and Dean, joined by Roman Reigns (aka Leakee of NXT) debuted as the Shield, a group who would appear seemingly out of nowhere and attack wrestlers for perceived "injustices". It was later revealed that the group has some kind of connection with Paul Heyman, the slimey manager of then-champion CM Punk. The Shield works as a cohesive unit, and seemingly studies the Art of War in their spare time or something, as their strategies and wiliness have made them nigh-unstoppable in the ring. Seth and Dean's rivalry seems to be over; along with Roman, they work together flawlessly and seem to be close friends now. If you see Seth being attacked in the ring, expect to see Dean charging to the rescue within seconds.

Dean actually smiles warmly at Seth. A warm smile from Dean Ambrose is like the equivalent of a marriage proposal from anyone else!

Date: 2013-07-21 02:33 am (UTC)It's weird to think they never wrestled each other on the indies. I think they both were on the same card a few times at IWA-MS, but never interacted.
The matches wouldn't load for me on here, but that's probably just lj being stupid again. I've seen these matches several times before so it doesn't matter anyway.
The second match has one of those "violent erotically charged" spots with Dean sitting on Seth's back halfway choking him while slowly massaging his forearm across Seth's face all while sticking his tongue out.
The third match has a couple of my favorite moments in it. With about 12 1/2 minutes left Seth dives onto Dean on the floor and Dean squeezes Seth's thigh to see if he's okay and later with about 10 minutes left they fall over the top rope and slowly squeeze hands on the floor to check on each other.
Seth's arm injury in the 4th match looks painful and I'm surprised he was able to wrestle.
I enjoy hearing them banter in the 5th match as well. I think Seth screams as much as Dean grunts.

There's no denying that -
Let's not forget to mention Regal's crush on Dean too. He gushes over him on commentary. I half expected Regal to bring Dean flowers and write him some poetry after his match.

Date: 2013-07-21 03:22 am (UTC)Guuuuurl, I would so watch matches with you if we lived anywhere near one another. I'm straight edge, so I wouldn't actually drink during the drinking game, but I would down Diet Dr. Pepper like nobody's business :)

Its extra-weird in that both are Midwest boys, they're the same age more or less, and they wrestled in a lot of the same companies. Thems the breaks, I guess. Dean mentioned in one of his shoot interviews that they'd met, very briefly, once or twice before FCW -- "Hi, nice to meet you" kind of stuff. IRL they seem to have become pretty close friends once in FCW, or at least Seth listed Dean amongst his closest wrestling friends on his Formspring account from back in the day.
Another of my fave Ambrollins moments is at 11:11 in this match, when DBry is trying to get the No Lock on Dean, and Seth comes charging through the ropes to save him -- risking a DQ and a beatdown from Kane, who is right there.
Let's not forget to mention Regal's crush on Dean too. He gushes over him on commentary. I half expected Regal to bring Dean flowers and write him some poetry after his match.

Date: 2013-07-21 03:51 am (UTC)I was thinking of the time period when they would have met - Seth would have all ready had his hands full with Jimmy. He probably didn't need Dean's special sort of craziness adding to that.
We need more DB-Ambrose matches. Seth is Dean's biggest cheerleader. He yells throughout the whole match. The best is Seth's reaction to Dean's injury - "Oh, look at that eye."
Their retreat after the match is so slashy too with Seth making sure Dean is okay.
