My boo is on his way to becoming a legend on the mic, and was well known for his promo skills back in the indies. Because I am a procrastinator killing time like looking at him, I've decided to collect as many of his promos in one place as possible, for the benefit of his fans and those who want to know if he deserves the hype. Because, as far as I'm concerned, Moxley and Ambrose are the same character, we're going to start out with his Moxley period.

Date: 12/23/06
Comments: Pink-haired Moxley! As far as I know, this is the earliest footage of Moxley available after he returned from his stint in Puerto Rico.
Quotable lines: "I am Jon Moxley, and as far as you and everybody else in this building is concerned, I am the Lord Jesus Christ!"

Date: 1/6/07
Comments: Listen to those fangirl squeals! This is one of the VERY few times I've heard him stutter or fumble on the mic.
Quotable lines: None really.

Date: unknown, uploaded to YT 9/26/08
Comments: This is about the time when Moxley began evolving into a raving maniac instead of a straight jerkass. Check out his masterful facial expressions as he describes Jake Crist dropping him on the back of the head.
Quotable lines: [describing being beaten up by bullies as a child] "I went home to my mom and I told her what happened and she said, 'Well son, that's why I gave ya a boxcutter!'"

Date: unknown, uploaded to YT 10/17/08
Comments: One of my favorite obscure Moxley moments: him tying the other two wrestlers together by the neck with his belt, then hanging them both on the ropes. Twisted.
Quotable lines: "I love you! You're my favorite wrestler... you're my favorite Power Ranger!"

Date: 11/1/08
Comments: Possibly his most famous promo, and without a doubt in the top three, this is the infamous I'm Just A Sick Guy promo from his IPW stint. Mox's psychotic break is on display in this mesmerizing promo which is all the more frightening for being a little too realistic. When he's rambling about tootsie rolls you're almost distracted from noticing the fork that he's got pointed at that girl's jugular.
Quotable lines: "I like to feel when it hurts a little bit, 'cause I like to feel alive. I like to go to bars and bang really ugly girls. I just like -- I'm just a sick guy, I'm really, really a dirty guy... I really like feeling alive."

Date: 11/7/2008
Comments: Shades of a more philosophical/schizophrenic Moxley.
Quotable lines: "Because I love pro wrestling. And I owe pro wrestling. It doesn't owe me anything. Because it's given me the only thing that makes me happy, the only high in this world that makes it worth getting up out of bed every day."

Date: unknown, but from context takes place before his 11/22/08 match vs. Shaun Ricker
Comments: The only thing scarier than psycho Moxley is psycho Moxley armed with a fork or in this case, a wrench. His persecution complex is on full display here. The way he goes from insanely begging to be put out of his misery to the deceptively calm voice at 2:15 legit gives me chills.
Quotable lines: "I HOPE YOU HAVE THE GUTS TO PUT ME OUT OF MY FUCKING MISERY DICK RICK... if ya can."

Date: unknown, but from context takes place before his steel cage match vs. Jake Crist 12/19/08
Comments: One of his scariest promos, Moxley is in full ranting strung-out psychopath mode here. You wouldn't want to run into this guy in a dark alley.
Quotable lines: "You took it to another level. You took my life -- even though I know you, and everybody else, doesn't think it's worth a shit, you don't have the right to take my life in your own hands like that, all right, Jake Crist!?"

Date: unknown, appears to be from HWA
Comments: Moxley's on the verge of an intense breakdown in this one. We catch glimpses of the character that would later take William Regal to the limit. The addition of the lighter is genius.
Quotable lines: "People seem to have a hard time figuring me out, but really, its pretty simple. I wear my thoughts and my emotions pretty much on my sleeve. And you turned out to be like everybody else!"

Date: unknown, but appears to take place around the same general time period as the video immediately preceding this one and his feud with Jake Crist
Comments: Moxley's freakout when he has to say Crist's name is like pure joy injected directly into my eyeballs. Also, is this the debut of the ~hand motions~?
Quotable lines: "Last week, big bad Ben Chimera got a big bad split down his forehead, courtesy of moi."

Date: unknown, uploaded to YT 3/2/09
Comments: The dirty camera lens dampens the enjoyment of seeing Moxley's paranoid maniac persona finally coalescing as he rants to a mask and then works his mindgames on his opponents.
Quotable lines: None really, but it's an excellent promo anyway.

Date: unknown but appears to be before 5/23/09
Comments: Oh lordy, the Censored Promo! Moxley is caustic, confident, and drop-dead sexy in this very effective promo.
Quotable lines: "And now you're gonna get all mad, and you're hold this grudge, 'cause I poured 409 chemical in your eyes... make up your mind!"

Date: unknown, but from context takes place before his 08/22/09 match vs. Drake Younger
Comments: One of his best promos! Moxley personifies dirty-white boy sex appeal, and this is by far one of his most quotable and memorable efforts.
Quotable lines: "Why would I accept a falls-count-anywhere, throw the rulebook out the window, match with you in Norwood? Probably for the same reason I showed my kindergarten teacher my dick. Because I just like to feel that uneasiness in the air, I like making people feel uncomfortable, I like to feel that tension in the air, when mothers have to hide their child's eyes, I think it's good for business when a few people have to ask for a refund."

Date: unknown, uploaded on YT 9/3/09
Comments: Shitty camera-work, but Moxley is animalistic and intense in this one.
Quotable lines: "I will not let him ride off into the damn sunset until he begs for my mercy!"

Date: unknown, uploaded to YT 2/21/10
Comments: Terribly underlit, but his sarcastic, utterly cool persona makes this a classic. Moxley is so arrogant and overconfident that he's verging on having a god-complex.
Quotable lines: "To all the critics now silenced, to all the people who're just lying to themselves when they said I couldn't do it, and to all the people who wanna jump on my bandwagon now that it's hot and it's way too late: there's only room for one up here, so you can all suck my dick!"

Date: unknown, uploaded to YT 3/12/10
Comments: Not his most fascinating promo, but Moxley looks and sounds delicious.
Quotable lines: None, really.

Thanks so much for posting these! I was only going to watch the few I hadn't seen before because I had things to do today, but then one promo leads to another and I entered some kind of Moxley hypnotic trance and ended up watching all of them.

Was he drunk in the first one?

There are so many great Moxley promos hidden in the HWA Pulse shows.

The Unbreakable promo is one of the best. It's rather out of character for his promos at the time and it sounds more like a confession or something a therapist told him. This is right after his brief hiatus from wrestling isn't it? He must have been doing a lot of reflecting on his life.

Great quote -
"I think it's good for business when a few people have to ask for a refund." I bet he could work that line into the Shield's current storyline with Kane.

Outside of his Unbreakable promo his "I'm just a sick guy" promo is one that gets talked about a lot where he mentions the tootsie rolls. I love his Unbreakable promo a lot more. His Evolve 3 promo was when I first took notice of Moxley just because HWA and IPW weren't something I watched.

I also love the promo from Elite Pro Wrestling where he talks in the alley about running the gauntlet and Moxley's promo from The Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup 2009 that he said got him a spot on the DGUSA roster before Gabe even saw him wrestle. He really stands out when you watch everyone else's promos right before his. Moxley was in a completely different league.

I love his promos as Ambrose, but looking back at these you can really tell how much he is holding back (being held back?) right now. It's scary.

Moxley was wrestling in Puerto Rico in 2006 (he was tag team champs with Hade Vansen that September). In his shoot interview he says he got out of wrestling for a bit after he returned stateside, then went back to HWA. AFAIK there is no footage of him available before his return to HWA that December. There's a pic or two of him in PR when he had an Evil Brit gimmick (!!!) and that's it. I was blown away when I watched the HWA stuff and realized that its only in those early early videos that you EVER see him stumble over a word or stutter in front of the crowd/cameras, and even back then he's miles ahead of more seasoned vets. He had just turned 21 in the HWA vid from 12-23-06.

He's preternatural on promos. It's like everyone else is playing community theater, and he's putting in an Oscar-worthy performance. Moxley definitely has a little Brian Pillman influence going on. He gets compared to Raven or Roddy Piper sometimes, but I don't see it at all myself (CM Punk's promo work is heavily influenced by Raven, which is unsurprising considering their long association in ROH/TNA). I've amused myself before by trying to armchair diagnose Moxley's personality disorder; borderline personality disorder seems to be the closest fit.

In my headspace, Moxley and Ambrose are the same character, but Ambrose is simply Moxley several years on down the line. I think when the Shield does finally break apart we'll see more of his scary side on the mic. Right now, Ambrose is relatively stable as part of that unit (relatively, let's keep that in mind). Without Rollins and Reigns, he'll go off the deep end.

I will be back with more promos/commentary, soon-ish!

He seemed more distracted in that promo when he stumble on his words than at a loss for words.

Piper was the reason I fell in love with wrestling. I can see a little of him in Moxley's promos. Raven not so much.

You could write a whole thesis on diagnosing Moxley's personality disorder.

Yeah! More Moxley. I won't make any plans;)
