No, I've been seeing it used on messageboards in place of 'American' because, supposedly, calling ourselves Americans is a sign of Cultural Imperialism because we're ignoring all the other nations of North and South America. I find this deeply stupid. Pop quiz: what's the other country in N. America called "United States"?

Estados Unidos Mexicanos. The United States of Mexico. They're Mexicans, we're Americans.
