Captain America. The only problem I have with writing Cap is that, well, he's just too sensible to go along with most of my crazy ideas. That's the difference between him and Daredevil. Present Steve with a bad situation, he'll think, "this is going to end badly for all involved", and he won't do it. Present Matt with a bad situation, he'll think, "this is going to end badly for all involved", and then he'll do it anyway.

Deadpool. Few people really write Deadpool well; that's including ficcers and professional writers. You have to find a balance between the tragedy, humanity and insanity of Wade's character, and you have to make him screamingly hilarious at the same time. If I ever get NAILED by an excellent story idea I'll try writing him, but it would be a challenge to get him right.

The Punisher. Frank is a character who thrives in gritty, intricately plotted, over the top, emotionally-exhausting, violent, morally-complex stories AND you have to strike just the right sort of hardboiled urban NYC tone. Very tough to do, I don't think I have the right ear for it, although I have to give Ennis mad props for his Punisher stories.

I agree about all three characters.

Matt's extraordinarily emotionally driven, but also an extremely moral man. Most people who try to either RP him or write fic fail totally, because they forget how deep his commitment is to justice, and how willingly enslaved he is to higher ideals.

Frank Castle - I have never, ever read a decent fanfic featuring Frank. NEVER. But please don't say that Frank's only NYC bound, because there's plenty of canon with him traveling all over the world. If you add up the totality of canon, Frank's probably been to every country except Albania. And don't even talk to me about slashing Frank, because that will be met with the eye rolling it so richly deserves. You take away his devotion to Maria, even though she's dead, and you just don't get Frank, period.

Deadpool - agreed. Joe Kelly was the definitive DP, and Nicieza, as much as I love him, does a decent effort but really doesn't come close. Plus, Nicieza's Deadpool is lacking this last year; his writing is getting stale.

Although there is a fic that's an over the top My Little Ponies/Deadpool crossover.

Captain America - It's hard writing someone who is so fundamentally decent, principled, and human.

This is why I salute Brubaker, and am so damn annoyed that Marvel editorial jumped into the middle of my favorite book and kicked it to death with their stompy crossover boots. There are a lot of great Steve Rogers stories Brubaker had in mind that I will now never see.
