"SPAAAAARTA!"
Mar. 28th, 2007 04:43 pmToday two of my friends showed up at my dorm and unexpectedly whisked me off to see "300", which I LOVED. My friend Leslie is good about taking me to see sweaty half-naked men movies. The only part I thought went over-the-top was all the hideous mutants. I said to Leslie, "Is there something in the water in Persia?" No wonder Xerxes wants to go somewhere else, obviously the Persians are breeding atop a radiation sink.
By far the best moment in the entire movie is when Xerxes is trying to pursuade Leonidas to surrender, and he comes up behind Leonidas and puts his hands on Leonidas' shoulder. For a split second, Leonidas gets this look on his face, "Is he coming on to me?"

From Philip French's review in 'The Observer', 25/03/07

On the Spartans:
The Spartan soldiers, carrying shields like dustbin lids and spears like park railings, have shiny rippling bodies, wear black leather Speedos and short red cloaks, and seem to be responding to an invitation to a fancy-dress party at a gay New York club that reads: 'Come as your favourite ancient Greek [we'll provide the Trojans].'
ROFL!
