Okay, so I saw Ninja Assassin for my birthday, and I loved it. Not a deep movie by any means, but one that more than fulfills the promise of its title: it's about Raizo, a NINJA who is also an ASSASSIN! And he has a DARK PAST! And he fights a shadowy CLAN of EVIL NINJA ASSASSINS! He ANGSTS! He is joined by Mika, a BEAUTIFUL Europol agent who is also fighting the EVIL NINJA CLAN! Together, they kick ass! And have UST!

On [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets, there's a secret lamenting how there's no fandom to celebrate how awesomely shippable Raizo/Mika are. Fangirl reaction: lots of Raizo/Mika shippers and several haters who declare that, among other things, Mika is "annoying" and a "useless bitch".

Now, far be it for me to suggest that these fangirls hate Mika because she gets to hang with Raizo, who is played by frequently shirtless Korean popstar Rain. Perish the thought. And okay, if they find her annoying I guess that's a personal opinion. I think it's unlikely you'll find much to support the "Mika is a bitch" position, but regardless, she was certainly not useless. As I pointed out, she saves Raizo's life on at least four separate occasions, and Europol would never have even found the Ozumu clan's hideout if it hadn't been for Mika's plan. Unlike a lot of action heroines, Mika is instrumental to the movie's plot. Raizo wouldn't have survived the first major battle 30 minutes in, much less triumphed at the end of the movie, if Mika hadn't been there.

More reasons Mika rocks:
1. She shoots an evil ninja in the foot
2. She's remarkably brave for being a "glorified librarian"
3. She drives around in a car with shuriken imbeded in the hood from a ninja attack
4. She runs over an evil ninja with said car

It does warm my heart however to see a lot of support for Raizo/Mika and their undeniable OTPness.

I freaking love you. I'm serious. I'm the kinda girl who totally stays away from certian fandom pages, because the people who hate really are just so jealous they can't help themselves, but it pisses me off royally. Like this one tie I ended up at a 'Paris/Orlando Bloom' board for Troy and they were snadblasting Achilles's with like, diamond sand or some shit. It totally peeved me and I knew, just knew that venturing into that ind of place might happen for people who just want to pretend they can have Raizo/Rain's hot bod in their bed.

After that whole long pointless rant, I want to say, it's nice seeing someone stand up for an OTP that has more chemistry that I've seen since I realized the potential that Cassie/Nick from Push had once she got older. So... thanks.

Hey, no problem. I've been in fandom for about 10-11 years now, so I have seen the full range of fangirl cattiness. However, because I tend to hang out in small fandoms that tend towards more mature and 'GIRL POWER' types, that in some ways it isolates me into this little bubble. Running across something like the blatant Mika-hatred is like getting cold water splashed in your face.

So many fangirls are so immature, envious, and self-hating that they can't see past the tip of their own nose. It's like the example I recently posted about the fandom!secret about how supposedly 'homely' Veronica Varlow (Emilie Autumn's Girl Friday) is. First of all, looks are not the end-all be-all to a woman's existence. Secondly, she's really very good-looking. But those two factors don't even matter, because it's obvious that the fanbrat hates Veronica because she's beautiful, she's famous, she hangs out with cool people, and she basically has the life said fanbrat desperately wishes SHE had. That's what's at the root of the Mika-hateration as well. Mika's beautiful, accomplished, brave, and SHE walks off into the sunset with Raizo/Rain, not the fanbrats, and they HATE her for it. It's really very sad.

I hear you. I'm in a lot of small fandoms as well. I like my characters to have realistic personalities based on developed characters and... Wow, my brian won't work right now. Jameson last night, coffee this morning. Maybe we'll have that conversation some other time. LOL

So, I noticed that you are from New Orleans? We are getting station at the Naval Base across the river in Belle Chasse. What's it like doen there?
